Lite-On Technology posts monthly profit of NT$10.06 billion

Components manufacturer Lite-On Technology Corp (光寶科技) yesterday reported consolidated revenue of NT$10.06 billion (US$348.6 million) for last month, nearly flat from levels a month earlier, the company said in an e-mailed statement.

Last month’s figure was 10.74 percent lower than a year earlier, but the Neihu (內湖), Taipei-based company said “the stable end demand in the smartphone and tablet PCs market” helped it maintain the same level of sales as the previous month, according to the statement.

Lite-On Technology’s major businesses include a camera module unit, an LED module unit and a unit producing power supply products used in notebook computers, desktop computers and servers.

“Thanks to the healthy order intake in the core business groups, opto-electronics revenue posted 25 percent annual growth,” the statement said.

“The LED business hit its highest monthly revenue this year, while camera modules posted a remarkable yearly growth of 64 percent year-on-year, resulting from ongoing market share gains and strong shipments in the tablet PC and smartphone markets globally,” it said.

In the second quarter, Lite-On Technology saw its consolidated revenue total NT$30.19 billion, up 6.38 percent from the previous quarter, but down 6.68 percent from a year earlier.

In the first six months of the year, cumulative sales dropped 3.98 percent to NT$58.57 billion compared with the same period last year, the company’s data showed.

This report considers the extent to which the company’s labor deployment indicators differ from global benchmarks. In this report we consider forecasts of differences between labor ratios and the resulting return on this human investment compared to global benchmarks; the estimation of such differences is commonly called a “gap analysis.” What is the ratio of short-term and long-term assets to employee? This report is not about whether a particular company or industry has performed well or poorly in the past or will do so in the future. With the globalization of markets, greater foreign competition, and the reduction of entry barriers, it becomes all the more important to benchmark a company’s human resource indicators against other firms on a worldwide basis. Doing so, however, is not an obvious task. First, one needs to find firms competing in the same sector, but not necessarily competing directly with the company in local markets. These firms should not be perceived, therefore, to be direct competitors to the company in question, but simply those that have been classified by various sources (e.g. EDGAR or similar foreign filings), as competing to serve customers in the same link of the value chain, or broad industrial classification, as identified by SIC, NAICS or similar codes. Second, given the international nature of the task, one needs to control for exchange rate volatility. Finally, one needs use comparable financial standards.
