Dickson's Week in Review
I thought I was watching Prince William and Catherine being welcomed to the U.S. There were 200 trumpeters and thousands of cheering people, while dignitaries bowed and presented wreaths. Turns out it was footage of Bubba Starling arriving in Lincoln for summer conditioning.
Bubba's dad told The World-Herald his son will arrive in Lincoln this weekend. While in town, Starling will be staying at the Governor's Mansion. Heineman moved out.
The total value of the extra textbooks some Nebraska student-athletes received at the university bookstore was $27,689.47. As someone who has shopped at the university bookstore, I know that works out to 13 textbooks.
The SEC chose Tennessee tennis player John-Patrick Smith as athlete of the year over Cam Newton. SEC boosters are reserving comment until they learn more about this thing called tennis.
SEC boosters said athlete of the year should be limited to athletes from “real sports” — football, rassling, monster car drivin' and trap shootin'.
Under Wisconsin's new concealed weapon law, fans may be allowed to carry concealed weapons at Lambeau Field. Considering the mentality of sports fans nowadays, visiting teams will be allowed to dig fox holes in the frozen tundra.
Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams filed a lawsuit to get back the $76,000 engagement ring he gave to former Miss Texas Brooke Daniels. Williams mailed the ring to her. This should come as no surprise, as Cowboys fans know Williams has been mailing it in for three years.
He mailed the ring to her. I think I know why the relationship didn't work out.
The NBA lockout now enters its second week. That large group of people projectile vomiting was reacting to the suggestion that if the 2011-12 season doesn't happen, watching the WNBA is a viable alternative.
On their wedding registry, Kim Kardashian and New Jersey Net Kris Humphries list a $1,600 coffee pot. Prince William and Catherine said, “Snobs.”
When the Marlins played the Nationals, it meant that Jack McKeon, 80, squared off against Nationals' manager Davey Johnson, 68. Thirty percent of fans polled thought they were watching an old-timers game.
As his trial gets under way, Roger Clemens had just one request — he asked for the Casey Anthony jury.
The Seattle Mariners lost to the Padres after a Padres hitter was awarded a walk after three balls. Umpiring has deteriorated to the point where the director of major league baseball operations said, “Hey, he was only off by one.

Saturday, June 25, 2011 Lung donor found for Jake Wisniewski; fundraiser today in Clifton
I got some very good news this morning on the Jake Wisniewski front.
A matching donor was found Friday and Jake went into surgery early this morning to have the double lung transplant he needs to save his life.
Jake is an associate director for MSG Network on Devils’ telecasts and was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was two years old. His 24th birthday is on Tuesday.
MSG’s Steve Cangialosi informed me late Friday afternoon that a potential donor had been found. After some testing, a match was confirmed Friday night. Jake changed hospitals and they had to wait for the organs to be transported. Cangialosi e-mailed me this morning that Jake texted him to let him know he was going into surgery shortly after 5 a.m. today.
When I find out anything more, I will post that information.
We’ve been raising funds through a Children’s Organ Transplant Association page: http://cota.donorpages.com/PatientOnlineDonation/COTAforJakeW/
We’ve raised more than $37,000 of the estimated $100,000 of medical expenses not covered by insurance.
A fundraiser is being held today at SHOTS Sports Lounge in Clifton. (118 Broad Street, Clifton; http://www.shotssportsbarandlounge.com ). The event starts at noon and runs until 3 a.m.
There will be drink specials, a live band and DJ, raffles, a 50-50 and more.
Another fundraiser is being planned for August.
Meanwhile, the NHL Entry Draft resumes at 11 a.m. today in St. Paul. Minn. with Rounds 2-7. The Devils don’t have a second-round pick. Their next pick is at No. 75 (the third round pick they received from Dallas for the Jamie Langenbrunner trade).
You can follow the Devils’ draft picks here and perhaps stop by the fundraiser for Jake.
