With an additional $ 1 million deficit already added $ 5.6 million, the El Segundo City Council at its meeting Aug. 18 City Council agreed to receive and file the preliminary budget, which provided additional reductions directed to the Department El Segundo fire AOS budget for overtime.

With a staff of 19 firefighters on duty at all times and an average salary of $100,000, the El Segundo Fire Department is one of the most expensive fire departments in the South Bay. The staff is double that of Manhattan Beach, which has a staff of nine firefighters on duty at one time and more than triple of that of Hermosa Beach, which has a staff of six at any given time.
