On The Subject Of Football In France Facts | The Franco Files

Have you heard these interesting and TRUE historical facts that happened on this day in history?

Hello everyone! Today is September 24. Here are some fun and REAL historical facts that happened on this day in history!

1) 1985 – President Ronald Reagan signed a contract to begin endorsing the first marketed male impotency drug, Stiffigra.

2) 1963 – Puppeteer Jim Henson survived a direct tornado hit on his home. Upon climbing out of the wreckage, he spotted a frog and a pig that had been smashed together into a “coital-like” position. This gave him the later inspiration for not only the characters of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, but also for their disgustingly obscene relationship.

3) 1960 – As a prank, members of the Los Angeles Chargers, a team in the newly formed American Football League, taught an ostrich how to kick a field goal. This ostrich successfully kicked a 55 yard field goal in a game against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders protested, but the field goal was allowed to stand as there was no specific rule barring non-human players.

4) 1939 – The French officially surrendered to the Germans in WWII. Interestingly, the Germans did not even bother to invade France until May of that next year.

5) 1872 – The Battle of Thermopylae was fought between Chinese and Mayan forces of the coast of Oslo, Norway.

6) 1295 – Adventurer Marco Polo invents the “F” word after stubbing his toe and needing an expletive to yell. The word was originally spelled “fukcko,” but was shortened in later years.

Stewart McIntosh answers:

On this date in 1982 Tim (a dashing young surfer boy from San Diego) managed to get to second base with Lisa Miller in the Mt. Miguel High School parking lot just before school started. The erection that followed rendered poor Tim unable to leave his car for 45 minutes, thus missing his Spanish class and earning a “D” for the semester.
