The graduates from Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church (UMC) were recognized during worship service June 5 and are being recognized for their dedication and services while members. RBC Bank honors Reed of Northeastern High

RBC Bank recently honored Shelley Reed, a teacher at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, with a $500 award as part of its eighth annual Tribute to Teachers program. This spring, the program is recognizing 50 teachers who demonstrate exceptional community leadership. This fall, RBC Bank will select an additional 50 winners from a new set of nominations for another 50 Tribute to Teachers Awards.

Griffin of South Mills named Honor Student

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Megan Sharell Griffin of South Mills has been recognized for academic achievement as a U.S. National Honor Student Award winner. Grffin, who attends Camden Middle School, will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook which is published nationally. Megan Griffin is the daughter of Michael and Sharon Griffin of South Mills. She is the granddaughter of Geraldine Stokley of Elizabeth City, Samuel and Vivian Shannon of Weeksville, and William and Jean Griffin of South Mills.

MACU named to service honor roll

Mid-Atlantic Christian University has been recognized for the fourth time since 2006 as a national leader in community service and civic engagement. The Corporation for National & Community Service recently named the university to the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for service efforts to America’s communities.

MACU students have logged thousands of hours of volunteer time with over 35 local churches, 4 local elementary schools, and 15 organizations such as Carolina House, Boy Scouts, SPCA, Gates County Empowerment Center, YMCA, Girl’s Inc, and the Pasquotank County Senior Citizen’s center.
