Alternative fuels: what's the real benefit to the environment?
Ethanol is a fuel alternative that is derived from the fermenting and distilling of starch crops like corn, switch grass, sugar beets, sugar cane and barley. As a fuel source, it is quite credible. It is renewable in that it comes from the crops that we already grow and have been growing for years. Also, in ethanol only engines the power is much greater than a gasoline-powered car. And testing does indicate there is a much lower emission of greenhouse gas.
The down side to this fuel is that it is expensive to produce and ship. It is projected that it takes as much if not more energy to produce a gallon of ethanol than that gallon of ethanol provides. The fuel economy is not that great, yet. The engine burns through ethanol faster than it would regular gasoline.
E85 is an ethanol/gasoline mixture using 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline; basically ethanol fuel but with a better fuel economy. What makes the better fuel economy, however, is the added gasoline. Ethanol fuels are still very young though. It will be a while before the tech exists to easily create it faster and less costly.
Biodiesel is an interesting mixture of vegetable oil, lye and alcohol. It is a renewable resource and can power most diesel engines once the engine has a couple of upgrades done. Not only is it less pollutant, it is safer to handle, nontoxic and biodegradable.
It is however, less fuel economy and depending on if you use a blend, it could be highly caustic to you engine. There are four blends specifically: B2, B5, B20 and B100. The number represents the percentage of biodiesel blended with gasoline. The blends do get a better fuel economy, but they may ruin your engine long term. Biodiesel is also very expensive and emits more nitrogen oxide than conventional vehicles.
Electric Motors are installed in two types of cars: electric cars and hybrids. The electric car is powered by an electric motor, which receives energy from a controller, which regulates how much energy to dispense depending on the use of the acceleration pedal.
With a plain electric car there are no emissions, but with a hybrid there is. The hybrid uses an electric motor and gasoline to move. Hybrids have an onboard computer that switches between the power sources for optimum efficiency.
Hybrid vehicles also have regenerative breaks, which helps convert energy into electricity stored into the battery. This energy can be used while idle or at low speeds. This is all accomplished through the use of the onboard computer.

Early critics of the telegraph, for instance, made many of the same doomsday complaints that we make today about texting and Twitter: that it would turn people into shallow thinkers and ruin writing by making everyone abbreviate everything.

This accident sometimes gas station (petrol) have always fuel pump diesel and unleaded gasoline. If Diesel runs into the engine’s cylinder, the spark plugs would still fire but nothing will happen and the engine will never start. This is because diesel fuel doesn’t evaporate as well as unleaded fuel. If you have accidentally put diesel fuel into car that requires unleaded fuel only, drain all the diesel fuel and refill it with gasoline. Crank the engine for few minutes until the diesel is fully out from the fuel lines and the injectors. The car will start and run fine, it will not bring any damage. For Bleach, if it has ran into the engine, the car would have tow to a mechanic for full overhaul and an engine replacement if it is very serious. Do not start the car if cigarette butts, molasses, honey, pancake syrup, sugar, or sticky liquid, or anything similar run into the gas tank. Tow the car to the nearest workshop and get a mechanic to remove it all from the gas tank. Be prepared to replace a new fuel tank in the worst case.
