MONTE VISTA � The SLV Folk Arts and Fiber Festival continues in Monte Vista in Marsh Park on Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10 with food, arts, crafts, demonstrations, retail, music and contests. A pancake breakfast is both days from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday the festival is 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. with music in the tent at 2 p.m. The festival hours are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday. ALAMOSA�The Valley Farmers Market opens July 9 and continues every Saturday through October 8 at the parking lots near State and Main in downtown Alamosa from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. On opening day, the Alamosa Community Gardens will host Garden Story Time and kids face painting. ALAMOSA � Friends of Bryce Smith, who was injured in a May automobile accident, will be having a benefit car wash and bake sale Saturday, July 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Beer Keg Depot, Hwy. 160 and Del Sol Drive. All money raised will go to the Smith family to help with medical expenses. Donations can also be made by check made out to Gary Smith and mailed to Alamosa School District, Superintendent�s Office, 209 Victoria Street, Alamosa. SAND DUNES � On Saturday, July 9, Park Ranger Larry McGough will lead a free guided hike to South Twin Lake, a large wetland west of Great Sand Dunes. Participants will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center, and will return to the Visitor Center about noon. Bring water, sun protection, insect repellant, and a snack. Call Ranger Larry McGough at 378-6399. SAGUACHE � On July 9th the La Vereda del Norte Chapter of the Old Spanish Trail will sponsor a field trip to the Saguache area. The group will meet at the park in Saguache at 10 a.m. and will go east to the area of the OST east of Rattlesnake Hill, then will head west of Saguache and go up into the Cochetopa Hills to look at some of the possible routes of the trail. MOSCA � A James McMurtry outdoor concert benefiting the Shriver/Wright Memorial will be held at the Zapata Ranch, Mosca, three miles south of Sand Dunes National Park on Hwy-150 at 2 p.m. July 10. You can find antique Persian or Oriental rugs at auctions or flea markets, and while some of these are expensive, if you don’t mind one that’s a little worn you can often get a bargain.
